Olympic Valley Incorporation Halted…for Now

Over the last few years several groups have unceasingly tried to incorporate the Olympic Valley area, near Lake Tahoe. If incorporated, home owners as well as business owners in Olympic Valley could have faced higher taxes as well as higher business fees, as was originally reported in the Reno-Gazette Journal. However, thanks to local support from Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC. which poured in hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight the incorporation movement, the support of incorporating Olympic Village have withdrawn their motion.

Andy Wirth, CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC. which operates both Squaw Valley and Alpine meadow ski resorts, rallied locals to support fighting incorporation. Wirth, who took over the helm as CEO in 2010, has worked to help bring money to the area by making it more accessible, and not putting the burden of costs and taxes on local busineses.

To help in the process of developing the Olympic Valley area, Wirth was made the chairman of the board for the Reno-Tahoe Regional Air Service Corporation. In this capacity he hopes to continue expanding air services to more western states and opening the accessibility to the Tahoe area and Olympic Valley.

Wirth has worked in the hospitality industry for over 25 years. He started out working in several marketing and leadership positions, and even helped transition some larger merger and aquisitions before taking on his new role as CEO.

One thing that Wirth hopes to accomplish in the near future apart from providing more access to the Tahoe area, is build a gondola that connects the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski reorts.
