Avi Weisfogel Offers An Alternative to the CPAP Machine

More than 25 million people in the United States suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. This medical condition causes a person’s airway to become blocked resulting in uneven or stopped breathing. Breaks between breathing can last from a few seconds to more than a minute. The body responds by constantly and abruptly waking from deep sleep. This causes fatigue and other health issues like obesity, high blood pressure and heart conditions. Most people generally consult their primary doctor for a remedy to this ailment. However, there are sleep apnea doctors in the dental field who are also qualified. One of these dental specialists is Avi Weisfogel.

Dr. Weisfogel graduated in the top half of his dental school class from New York University College of Dentistry in 1998. He dreamed of becoming a specialist in his field but wanted to stand out from other dentists by offering something different. During his residency, he and a fellow student had a discussion about the effects of sleep apnea.

In 1999 after much time and research, he started Owner Unlimited Sleep Patient located in Old Bridge, New Jersey. His students were other dentists wanting to learn about sleep programs. In 2010 he opened his own dental practice Old Bridge Dental Care in the same city. Healthy Heart Sleep is another business that he helped establish the same year. Dr. Weisfogel works with physicians all over the United States to operate their own sleep labs.

In 2014 Drs. Weisfogel, Barry Glassman and Jonathan Greenburg established Dental Sleep Masters in South Orange, New Jersey. They assist hundreds of patients each month who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. They offer customized oral appliances as an alternative to the CPAP machine.

Approximately 100 types of oral appliances have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. There are various types available depending on the needs of the patient. Some resemble sports mouth guards and others, like those implanted by Dr. Weisfogel, are metal appliances that attach to the upper and lower teeth. These customized devices hold the jaw in position and prevents the tongue from falling back in the throat and obstructing the airway.

Patients suspecting they have sleep apnea need a sleep study and diagnosis from a sleep apnea doctor at a sleep lab. Dr. Avi Weisfogel can assist them with this and implant a personal oral appliance that is more comfortable and easier to handle than a CPAP machine.

Warning: Procrastination is Bad for Heart Health

It appears there is another reason to avoid procrastination at all costs. A recent study, published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine (, revealed people who have a tendency to regularly procrastinate also have a higher risk of heart disease.

The study collected data from people suffering from hyper tension and heart disease, who were also self-proclaimed procrastinators, and the results showed people with heart disease were much more likely to engage in behaviors such as procrastination than were their healthy counterparts.

Although the study did not investigate why exactly people who procrastinate also have a higher instance of heart disease, it could be for obvious reasons. People who procrastinate get less physical activity and move around less than people who are proactive about their chores and responsibilities.

Regular physical activity is a well-documented way to prevent and lower your risk of heart disease, along with a long list of other conditions. That is why Ricardo Guimarães BMG participates in it. Procrastination might seem tempting in the moment and we have all caught ourselves saying “I’ll do it tomorrow”. But for those who this is a consistent way of approaching life’s demands might end up suffering serious health consequences that won’t wait for tomorrow.

New Invention May Speed Up Diagnosis of Ebola

Dr. Adam Levine, who previously managed an Ebola treatment center, recently published an article detailing his invention of a device to diagnose the dreaded disease in patients more rapidly. This ability to rapidly determine whether or not a patient suffers a high risk of suffering from Ebola is very important, because laboratory tests may require up to 36 hours to confirm the disease: in the meantime, medical personnel need to know whether or not a suspected Ebola patient should be quarantined.

Dr. Levine works as a professor at Brown University, and also practices as an Emergency Room physician at Rhode Island Hospital and the Miriam Hospital. He previously conducted research for the National Institutes of Health in Haiti and the Sudan. His recent experiences treating Ebola patients occurred while he worked with the International Medical Corps.

His article appear in the highly respected Annals of Emergency Medicine, an academic journal which focuses on the emergency medical field. After returning from treating Ebola cases, Dr. Levine analyzed patient treatment data and developed his new method for treating these cases, which caught Paul Mathieson by surprise. It represents an improvement over the current treatment protocols, which depend upon an analysis of 14 factors listed here.

Dr. Levine’s analysis uses fewer criteria. He considers whether or not patients had any prior contact with known Ebola patients, and symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty swallowing, loss of appetite, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Depression and Suicide

There might be a relation between those who are bipolar and those who commit suicide. Some of the people who are bipolar might suffer from depression. Those who have the condition often know what it’s like to go through various mood swings every week, sometimes every day. Some of the people who are depressed at least attempt suicide at some point. They might do it to get attention from family and friends, or they might feel that alone in life that they don’t want to go on living.

Instead of the people who are depressed or who are bipolar reach the point where they feel like they have to take their life, there should be help offered in the form of counseling or another kind of therapy. Many at CipherCloud believe this should be the case. Sometimes, it helps the most if those who feel like they have no where to go have someone to talk to who they can trust.

Mushroom Brings Hope for Cancer Sufferers

Is there a new kind of hope for those suffering from cancer? Could there be something that is available in nature that just might work to fight the deadly disease? New research is being done to see if a compound found in mushrooms just might offer hope for those who are suffering from cancer.

When it comes to cancer there are some treatment options out there, but those options don’t always work. The options that are out there don’t always bring about the results that those dealing with cancer want for themselves. If there could possibly be hope for new help through this compound that was found, then those suffering from cancer could be given new life.

Research continues, but this new discover just might lead to new health for those who are dealing with cancer and all of the pain that it brings. That would be great in the eyes of Marc Sparks and countless others affected. Those dealing with cancer need hope if you read articles on Crunch Base, and when that hope can be found in nature it is of even greater significance.

Keep Your Spine in Good Athletic Health With North American Spine

Those who engage in competitive athletics on a routine basis or even those who just like to be involved in athletic pursuits now and then will want to make sure that their spine stays in good health when doing so. Proper spinal alignment is one of the keys to basic athletic performance. A gymnast with a strong core will find it easier to keep to correct form at all times. Figure skaters who want to show off the perfect layback spin will need to make sure their back stays in good shape as they show off their flexibility to international judges. A football player with the best possible posture will find it far easier to do all football maneuvers with a strong back.

The North American Spine practice, based in the Dallas, Texas area, has developed an important procedure that can help athletes stay in shape and overcome any back injuries. Their AccuraScope procedure has been proven to help treat problems such as bulging discs that may have developed over the course of long hours pounding the basketball courts. They can also treat injuries such as herniated discs that are common for many athletes. The practice can also help with other problems that often develop in athletes who push their bodies hard. A condition such spinal stenosis where the cord narrows may be present. The same is true of conditions such as sciatica that may be a problem for pregnant female athletes who face increased pressure on their spine as the pregnancy progresses. Small annular tears may also develop over time along with arthritis from overuse of a muscle and scar tissue from prior injuries. The procedure used by North American Spine can help fix such chronic conditions in as little as half an hour.

The practice works with athletes to use a small incision and a camera that can move in precise spinal locations. This allows the doctors to directly locate exactly where the pain exists and aim for precise treatment. Athletes are often pleased to discover that the result is quick and requires very little medical manipulation of the spine, allowing for a much quicker recovery. This means that the athlete who is aiming to participate in major competition can allow themselves time to address any sudden injuries to their spin and yet not need to worry that they will miss the competition because of the injury.

Electromagnetic Fields from Technology May be Making You Sick

You can’t see them, touch them, taste them or smell them.. But they are surrounding you right now. Electromagnetic fields, EMFs for short, and they are what makes technology possible. They may also be making you sick.

All things electronic or battery operated, like our Smartphone, iPods, computers, WiFi and satellite signals create fields of energy that are not natural for the human body. Imaging advantage suggests the human body is bombarded with this unnatural energy day and after day and it can wreak havoc within our human frame.

Inexplicable tiredness, headaches, allergies, stress, irritability, depression and cancer may be caused from the electromagnetic frequencies that are permeating our body all day, everyday. Because the EMF is invisible, the root cause of many illnesses caused by them can’t be pinpointed. The invisibility also makes it hard to prove that EMF’s even exist, let alone cause illnesses.

But common sense alerts us to the fact that there has to be a connection between a cell phone in every hand and allergy/headache/depression medication in every medicine cabinet. Maybe the cumulative effect of the constant bombardment from electromagnetic fields of energy is making us sick, maybe it’s not, but something is causing inexplicable illnesses to run rampant among us.

Get A Healthy Mind With The Help Of Daniel Amen

Dr. Daniel Amen is a current best selling psychiatrist and author. He believes that holistic eating can benefit the overall health of the brain and body. His idea of using a nutrient rich diet as a way to try to alleviate the symptoms of ADD and depression is gaining national attention. If one is having problems with Weight Issues, Anxiety, ADHD, Depression, addictions or memory problems, then the Daniel Amen method of trying to alleviate these problems may help. Tens of thousands of patients have been helped by his methods.

Some doctors have stated that treating psychological disorders are really not much better than they were fifty years ago. A doctor named Doctor Thomas Insel, the director of the National Institute of Mental Health, has stated that unfortunately too few people are getting better or well by the current medications being prescribed. For twenty two years the Doctor Daniel Amen Clinics Method has been helping people get better.

The traditional way that people would go to get help from their psychiatrist isn’t working out that well, according to Dr. Amen. The patient will say something like I’m depressed to the doctor and the prescribing physician will simply give them some anti-depression pills. Attention Deficit Disorder is treated usually with some kind of stimulant medication. The diagnosis for these various disorders is to treat the immediate symptom at hand without considering any possible biological problems with the patient.

Psychiatrists are the only doctors that don’t look at the physical reasons why the body organ that they are studying doesn’t work right. Heart doctors look at the physical health of the heart to make a diagnosis. All other organ doctors do the same thing, but not psychiatrists. At the Amen Clinics, the doctors there believe that studying the brain itself is important. Some brains show signs of low activity or others may show a level of high activity. There may be a past brain injury of some sort that may be causing the patients symptoms of anxiety or depression or other disorder. Brain toxicity may be another cause of symptoms. All of these things need to be taken into consideration when coming to any conclusions regarding the state of the patients brain.

With a one size fits all approach, in some respects towards mental health in this country, it of great interest to know that doctors like Daniel Amen are trying to chart another course.
