Who Is Stephen Murray? What It His Background?

Stephen Murray is a former financial equity company executive. His claim to fame has been being the chief executive officer of private equity firm CCMP Capital. CCMP Capital was one of the largest private equity buyout companies in the world.

Mr. Murray passed away on March 12, 2015 after battling a chronic case of cancer that ultimately took his life. Stephen Murray was 52 years old when he died. He leaves behind four boys and a wife Tami.

Stephen Murray CCMP Capital grew up in the suburbs of New York City. He was raised in the affluent and suburban Westchester County just North of the New York City borough of the Bronx. Mr. Murray would later relocate to Stamford, Connecticut after he became a father and got married. He was very active in supporting local museums and charities in Connecticut and the New York Metropolitan area.

Mr. Murray got a bachelors of arts degree from Boston College in Massachusetts. His major there was economics. Stephen Murray would later get a masters degree. This time his major was business administration and the place of study was Columbia University in New York City.

Stephen Murray has donated significant amounts of money to numerous charities throughout Connecticut and the New York City metropolitan area. He has also volunteered his time to charities and non profit organizations as well.

Mr. Murray actively supported his alma matters, which includes Boston College and Columbia Business School, where he graduated from.

In Connecticut he was a major benefactor of the Stamford Museum, found in the city where he and his family resided for a significant period of time before he passed away. Stephen Murray supported the Make A Wish Foundation In The New York Metro area, which helps poor youth experience trips, shows and grants them wishes that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

Mr. Stephen Murray also supported the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, which helped the poor and hungry in Mr. Murray’s county of residence.

A Brief Look At Stephen Murray’s Career

In addition to serving as CEO of CCMP Capital, which bought out and invested money in firms in the middle market segment, Mr. Murray held a number of other key board positions.

He was a member of the board of Octagon Credit Investors, Strongwood Insurance Holdings and Infogroup Inc. to name just a few. Mr. Murray was known to be an excellent deal maker and a humble individual who was well liked by his colleagues. This is according to the successor and co-worker at CCMP Capital Greg Brenneman.
