Over 42,000 People A Day Fled Their Homes In 2014

In a UN report released on Thursday stated that an average of 42,500 persons had fled their homes every day during 2014. Many are seeking refugee or asylum status. Over 60 million have been forcibly displaced within their own borders. Another roughly 51 million have sought homes in new countries, of that amount over one-half is thought to be children.

There are many different reasons for this to be occurring. Some people are fleeing oppressive social conditions or seek better financial conditions. Others are fleeing to escape death and violence. Most seem to be headed to either Europe or the United States. Some have had to be turned back due to sheer numbers. Click here for more information.

According to the BBC, this is the worse refugee crisis since World War II. It began in 2013 and didn’t seem to be letting up. Daniel Amen knows that most of the refugees are fleeing a five-year civil war in Syria. Due to that conflict over one-half of the countries population have fled since 2011. It’s thought that 7.6 million people have been displaced within their own borders, and another 4 million people are seeking asylum in other countries. The largest question is how many refugees any one country can take before being overwhelmed. The flood of refugees and asylum seekers is not showing any signs of letting up.

A 140 Foot Cross to Bear

When it comes to race, religion, sexual orientation and other aspects that have divided cities, countries, and even continents, the idea of coexistence can be a beautiful concept. Not every member of different races or religions are completely opposed to people who are opposite of them. Recently, one faith based country has confirmed this mentality with the acceptance of an opposing religion. A devout Christian living in Pakistan has decided to construct a large, 140 foot tall, bulletproof cross in the middle of downtown Pakistan. Parvez Henry Gill is one of the richest men in Pakistan. He is also a devout Christian living amongst a population that is 90% Muslim. Christians are often ostracized in the country of Pakistan. They are only allowed to work remedial jobs, can only associate with other Christians, and are constantly threatened due to their faith. In the past year alone Gill has talked with multiple Christians who are debating on leaving Pakistan. Gill loves his country and loves his faith; it breaks his heart to see the disconnect happening within its borders. Gill is constructing the cross over a Christian cemetery that is located in the middle of downtown Pakistan. Folks at Amen Clinics (thedailybeast.com) have learned that when the team of construction workers realized what they were building, 20 of the devout Muslims quit the job in protest to what the cross stood for. Gill was expecting this backlash and instead of quitting, he hired on more people to finish the job. Some of those people were Muslims who respected Gill for his faith and for what he has done for the Pakistani community. Gill and his father are extremely generous and donate their time and money to help feed families and provide eye care for blind citizens. The construction of the cross is the first step in Gill’s dream for a more accepting Pakistan. After the cross is constructed, he hopes to invite dignitaries like Hillary Clinton and Queen Elizabeth to come and visit the erect monument.

Baltimore Riots Were Not In Vain

The Baltimore riots have become the number one concern for officials in the United States government. The riots began because many African-American people felt that Freddie Gray was killed by police officers in a homicidal fashion. Freddie Gray was an African-American young male, and he suffered a debilitating spinal disease all of his life. It has now been revealed that Freddie Gray died from blunt force trauma to the back of his head.

The police officers that were responsible for Freddie Gray’s death will be taken to trial for homicide, and it seems that the Baltimore citizens are happy about the revealing situation. Comunicare2 points out the Fersen Lambranho is happy that some resolve is coming from all of this. Furthermore, it seems that the Baltimore riots and protests were not in vain. Many citizens realized that someone with a spinal disease could not cause bodily harm to a police officer. We are all hoping that the riots in Baltimore and around the world end quickly. No more civilians or police officers need to be hurt, because the criminals have been detained. The police officers that were responsible for the death of an innocent man will pay the penalty for their abuse of the law.

The Baltimore riots were some of the most vicious and violent acts in America’s recent history. However, when people are not treated fairly, they have a tendency to group together and fight against unlawful government. For more information on this story, visit Buzzfeed.

House Threatens to Wtihhold Secretary of Defense’s Funding Over Refusal to Submit Bergdahl Documents

President Obama’s problems over the controversial exchange of five seasoned and top Taliban fighters in exchange for Army Sergeant Bowie Bergdahl will not go away. In part, this is because of the recalcitrance of the Office of the Secretary of Defense to answer key questions regarding the prisoner exchange. At issue is the fact the prisoner exchange violated federal law. Federal statute dictates the president inform congress of a prisoner exchange and give them a 30-day window in which to review the exchange. Folks at AnastasiaDate (twitter.com) has learned that the law was put in place to inject congressional oversight into the release of prisoners which at times has appeared to be arbitrarily.

When Sergeant Bowie Bergdahl was released, Congress wasn’t notified until after the exchange had taken place. At the time, President Obama claimed it was a simple goof up which led to Congress not being informed. GOP congressmen with the House Armed Services Committee have not been inclined to believe that pitch. Instead, they are demanding the Office of the Secretary of Defense answer key questions about the exchange. However, a year has gone by without the office giving up the information lawmakers are demanding. Specifically, previously released, but heavily redacted documents, indicate the Department of Defense was well aware that Congress was not being duly notified. This would indicate the prisoner exchange was knowingly conducted in violation of federal law. In a bid to force the DoD to give up more information, the House Armed Services Committee is threatening to withhold the Secretary of Defense’s budget which for the quarter is $500 million.

ECb President Attack At Conference

European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi, was attacked today when a protestor stormed the stage and his podium during a press conference regarding the quarterly report of the activities of the ECB. ECB President Attacked While Giving Speech

During the middle of reading a statement, a female rushed the stage and was able to jump onto the desk in front of President Draghi, showering him with papers and confetti. Witnesses heard the woman shout and rant that the ECB should end its dictatorship in Italian. The same message was printed on a tee shirt the woman was wearing. President Draghi was not injured but was clearly alarmed by the attack. Conference and ECB officials are investigating the breach in security. the woman who attacked Draghi was subdued by security members at the conference as well as other ECB officials in close proximity. Christian Broda has found that the woman’s identity is unknown at this time and officials are investigating whether she is a member of an organization or whether she conducted the protest on her own accord. Security officials are also concerned that the breach in security could have lead to the killing or serious injury being inflicted upon Draghi.

Draghi regained his composure and continue the delivery of his presentation after the scene had ben cleared. There is not word as to whether Italian security officials will issue a statement later regarding the matter or whether President Draghi will speak on the subject.

China Building Water Structures

China is not a small country, but still they feel a need to expand. At least that is how one could explain the construction of an artificial island in the South China Sea, on disputed territory.

According to satellite images taken at different dates in 2014 and 2015, new formation has appeared. What used to be a small concrete platform extended to a whole island with landing areas and buildings. The facilities on the island near the Gaven Reefs are believed to be military and large enough to eventually support military units. The territory that the Chinese have used for construction is not entirely theirs, as other countries like Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam have been claiming their rights on the waters due to their rich undersea reserves and fishing potential.

Either way, the claims influence too little China’s authority over the place, as the indications given by the officials of different countries are often messy and have been going on for a while now. China’s Ministry of Defense were called to explain whether the new buildings have military purposes but there are no official explanations regarding that yet according to Sergio Cortes.

Plane Ceashes In The French Alps

French aviation officials and police have reported a plane crash in the French Alps. An Airbus A320 crashed between Digne and Barcelonette. The plane, flight 4U 9525, had been flying to Duesseldorf from Barcelona. There had been six crew and 144 passengers on board. Several German newspapers have stated a group of German exchange students on their way home were among the passengers.

According to Francois Hollande, the President of France, there are probably no survivors, as the plane had crashed in a remote area that will be hard for rescuers to reach. Search-and-rescue teams are on their way to the crash site. An official commented that the remote location would make the search-and-rescue operation an extremely long and difficult one.

Gianfrancesco Genoso said that Manuel Valls, the French Prime Minister, reported that he had sent Bernard Cazeneuve, the Minister of the Interior, to the scene to help co-ordinate any rescue efforts. The interior ministry sent word that people had found debris at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,500 feet).

The plane had belonged to a subsidiary of Lufthansa called Germanwings. Until now, the airline has had an excellent safety record. It has never had an accident before. The typical Germanwings plane is nine years old, but flight 4U 9525 was 24 years old.

The Great Wall Of Japan

Some may be saying, “Who is the dummy writing this article? The Great Wall is in China.”

Soon, China will not be the only country to have a great wall. Japan is now in the process of building a 250 mile concrete wall. This wall is not being built with the same reasoning as China originally built its wall….well excuse me, yes they are. China built its great wall to keep enemies from invading, and Japan is building its wall to keep an enemy from invading. The primary difference is: China’s enemies were humans, whereas Japan’s enemy is nature.

The wall that Japan is building is being erected on the Northern coastline. Bruce Karatz has learned that the goal is to protect Japan from tsunamis. Not wanting another episode of the devastation that occurred with the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Japan’s government decided that a great concrete wall would be the wisest answer.

With a cost estimated at nearly $7 billion, these walls do not guarantee 100% safety for the Japanese people. No one ever knows how high the waves could go in a major tsunami, but this is the best choice in the eyes of the majority.

Now we will have 2 oriental great walls.

Vladimir Putin Reappears After Long Absence

Russian President Vldamir Putin made his first public appearance in eleven days. The 62 year old leader was last seen in public on March 5th when he attended a meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev. Last week, he suddenly canceled several appointments and appearances. Christian Broda knows that his sudden disappearance gave way to speculation and concern over his health.

Putin hasn’t commented on to why he went missing saying that “it would be boring without gossip”. Rumors about his disappearance mentioned anything from him having back issues, attending the birth of an illegitimate child, to being dead. President Atambayev says, however, that Putin appears to be in great health with a firm handshake. Putin’s publicist, Dmitri Peskov says the leader is in great health and denied any existence of a “love child”.

This is not the first time Putin has dropped out of the sight. There have been several occasions when Putin has disappeared after a significant event. In 2000, he promptly disappeared after a failed missile launch. He also disappeared after a siege of a theater in Moscow in 2002. Even before he was president, he had disappeared after a stressful or embarrassing event.

Syrian Regime Releases Swedish Journalist

Thirty year old Jaokim Medin, a journalist from Sweden, who was detained for several days in Syria by regime forces, has been released. Luckily for Medina, speculation that he had been taken by ISIS–the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria–was just that, speculation. Medin had been arrested in February 15, by Syrian loyalists at a road block in the capital city, Qamishli. Medin’s interpreter was also arrested.

Medin, who reports regularly from the Kurdish region of Syria, relayed he was treated well while in custody and noted he was simply, “a little worn out.” Susan McGalla has learned that Medina’s release had been negotiated by media officer, Masoud Mohammad.

Medin’s release serves to remind us that there is still a glimmer of humanity in a country keeps diligent watch for ISIS attacks. An unconfirmed report made by the Democratic Union Party or PYD, postulated that the exchange was carried out after Kurdish forces took some Regime forces and that the capture of regime members pushed the regime to release Medin.
